A Note From John
Hello everyone,
Welcome to the December newsletter! I hope you all are having an excellent holiday season thus far.
Every December is always a time for reflection for me and, I’m sure, for many people. So, as we reflect on 2022, I would say this year has been good to me personally and professionally.
On a professional level, it gives me great joy to see how this thing that we’re building continues to grow and scale each month with the addition of full-time members and contractors. As far as where we are from a business standpoint, we’ve seen an increase in business for us in the past year: 2X year-over-year, and we currently have ten team members and 14 clients! With that, I extend our sincerest thanks to clients like GoodTime, InMobi, Matik, Blameless, Upwave, 33Across, Conquest VR, Playbook Media, and others for entrusting us with helping to build your awareness and thought leadership!
This year I also took the step of going for my accreditation in public relations (APR). Getting my APR has been a career goal of mine. I began my studies in March this year through the Orange County PRSA chapter. In June of this year, I presented my APR panel presentation and passed! Then it was on to the APR computer-based exam (CBE), which I took in September. Unfortunately, I did not pass the CBE the first time, falling four percentage points from passing. But this setback did not deter me. I currently continue to make time to study more so that, eventually, I will be able to pass the APR CBE by the deadline of April 2023. Additionally, in 2023, I plan to take the reins as the PRSA-LA Chapter Treasurer, and I look forward to helping the chapter provide new types of programming and networking opportunities to benefit the membership.
And then, on a personal level, 2022 was a mixed bag. The highlights were my second annual summer vacation with my immediate family in Orlando and my travels to other cities like SF, Vegas, New York, Scottsdale, Seattle, Hawaii, San Diego, Denver, Austin, and Palm Springs. As some of you know, I love to travel a lot.
This year I also experienced two passings, my Uncle Carlos (my dad’s older brother) and Don (who was like a brother to me). I didn’t know my Uncle Carlos all too well but only wished we had more time to know each other. And for Don, I’m still grieving in my way. I was gutted for sure. What helps is the many memories, photos, and videos.
I also maintain my daily goal of striving to be the better version of myself. I’ve said as much to both friends and colleagues alike that mental health and personal well-being are always front and center for me. I am very thankful for the support system I have put in place to help me continue to do what I can to be a better communicator, a better listener, and an overall better person.
So as we close out this 2022 and the last newsletter for us this year, I’d like to wish all of you a joyous holiday season and all the best in the new year.
Take care of everyone. Stay well, and be safe!
Until next time.
